さよなら、ごきげんよう、スペインのご婦人たち

というのも、わがなつかしのイギリスへの帰還命令が
届いたからなのだ
でも、君達に会いにすぐに戻ってこよう
　＊我々は忠実なイギリスの船乗りらしく浮かれ騒ごう
　　大海原のまっただ中で浮かれ騒ごう
　　なつかしのイギリス海峡で測深するまでは・・・
　　この海峡は、Ushant島からScilly諸島まで３５リーグだ

南西の風にへさきを向けて船を止めた
船を止めて、海の深さを測った
それから全艦隊に錨を下ろせ、
そして今夜ダウンズの町に終結せよ、
との合図が出された

league 距離の単位(約4.8km) 35リーグは約170Km

【解説】
何種類かの歌詞があるが、細かい言葉の違いで、基本的には同じ意味。
ただし、上記の歌詞より少々長いものが多い。
その長い部分は、我々はどこを通り、次にどこを通った、という風に、
イギリス南部の地名が続出している。
それをたどると、イギリス海峡を英国南岸沿いに東に向い、
ドーバー海峡を通り越したあたりで停泊している
